Ocala, FL (August 7, 2018) – A fatal hit-and-run accident killed a 68-year-old in Ocala, and members of the community are speaking out on his behalf.
Friends and neighbors knew the victim as ‘Felipe’ and said that he was crossing the road late at night on Sunday when he was struck. He had a friend’s bicyclist with him and promised he would be right back but never made it home.
Witnesses and police said that Felipe was crossing the roadway with a pickup truck behind him. He started walking from right to left and entered directly into the path of the vehicle which then struck him. A witness at the scene said that the bicycle was nearly split in half due to the impact.
The driver did not stay at the scene. Several people in the community have said that this isn’t unusual for the area and that many people lose their lives at these intersections.
