Oldsmar, FL (August 31 2018) - A pedestrian was killed on Tuesday evening after being struck by two vehicles while walking in the roadway.
According to reports, 64 year old Eric Feinstein of Dunedin was walking along Tampa Road at the intersection of St. Petersburg Drive when he was hit by a 2010 Toyota Four Runner. The Four Runner was driven by 55 year old Mark Coomes. After being struck by the Four Runner, Feinstein was struck again by a second vehicle. The second vehicle did not stop following the collision.
Coomes told police that he had a green light and that he tried to avoid Feinstein prior to the crash but was unable to do so. It is not clear if Feinstein was in a crosswalk when he was struck. Officers are investigating in an attempt to determine the identity of the second driver who struck Feinstein and left the scene.
No charges were immediately filed as the police investigation remains ongoing.
Over 10,000 pedestrian accidents took place last year in the State of Florida. Approximately two people per day are killed in Florida pedestrian incidents. Our thoughts are with the family of Eric Feinstein in this time of tragedy.
Pedestrian accidents range from minor up to severe and even deadly. A close examination of the accident scene must be undertaken in order to determine who was at fault in a pedestrian crash. Some factors to consider are whether the pedestrian was in a marked area such as a crosswalk, whether the driver was distracted or impaired and whether any traffic laws were being violated at the time of the crash. If the driver is determined to be negligent, they can be held accountable for the pedestrian's injuries.
