In the latest news, research shows us that there is one life taken every other day on Jacksonville roads. Since the first of the year, 45 people have already died in traffic-related deaths throughout Jacksonville, Florida. The last person who lost their life, in the release of the research, was a middle-aged bicyclist hit by a tractor-trailer.
Over the years, these preventable accidents have been adding up. There were 120 deaths in 2014 all the way up to 136 deaths in 2017. We are only a quarter of the way through 2018 and it has been determined that there could be upwards of 200 accidents in Jacksonville for the year that take lives.
Jacksonville has gathered up some of the ways that we can prevent these accidents and promote safety in the city as well as across the entire state of Florida. Some of these measures include cars driving the speed limit, focusing on driving and less on cell phones, and ensuring that drivers always watch signals when pedestrians could be coming through.
