An Interstate 95 crash that took place in Martin left one person dead and another person in serious condition in the hospital early yesterday morning. A Lake Worth man was able to escape injury in the serious accident that ended in disaster.
The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene and found that 42-year-old Karl Gorka was driving northbound at the time of the accident in his Nissan. His SUV was struck from behind very suddenly by another SUV driven by another driver who was not named. He had one passenger inside his vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Mike Andy Felix. Felix was seriously injured and immediately taken to the hospital.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene but the family has not been reached, so his name has not yet been released. The crash was so severe that it shut down all northbound lanes of the highway around 4:45 a.m. Many lanes did not yet open until around 9:30 a.m.
After striking the first vehicle, the second SUV apparently swerved to the right and crossed into a grassy shoulder. It then struck a tree, which is how the driver died due to severe injuries.
