Oriole Beach, FL (August 28, 2018) - A man died on Monday after a small plane he was piloting crashed in the Santa Rosa Sound. According to Midway Fire District Chief Jonathan Kanzigg, the plane was discovered on Monday morning near the boat ramp at 3165 Linden Avenue.
Several Good Samaritans retrieved the body of the pilot before fire department officials arrived on scene. The deceased individual is described as a male apparently in his late 50s, but his identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. No others were injured in the accident.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. The plane is described as a light aircraft with canvas wings and pontoons so that it can take off and land in the water. There is no word on what may have caused the accident.
Aircraft and aviation accidents do not happen nearly as often as car accidents. When they do occur, however, they can be quite serious and even deadly.
In any type of airplane accident, an experienced Florida aviation attorney can investigate the crash and surrounding circumstances. It is important to look at the results of the official crash investigation and, in many cases, hire the services of an expert who can conduct their own investigation in the cause of the crash. The expert will often do a full crash reconstruction analysis in an effort to determine how the incident occurred.
