Orlando, FL (June 21, 2018) – A FedEx truck driver lost his life yesterday after a crash that happened on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County. Florida Highway Patrol investigated.
61-year-old Charles Sexton was driving north at the time of the incident. He was behind a flatbed truck that was hauling sod on the Turnpike around 12:20 p.m. The semi suddenly malfunctioned, leading to the accident. This caused the brake drum and the tire tread to separate from the semi.
A 33-year-old Mount Dora man was driving at the time. The brake drum proceeded to bounce off the ground and travel through Sexton’s windshield. This caused him to be struck, which caused severe injuries. He was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center but died while there.
The driver of the semi did not receive injuries. At this time, the crash is being investigated.
Many accidents take place across Florida each year that lead to fatal results. In fact, someone loses their life in Florida every 3 hours due to an accident. Commercial vehicles and trucks lead to 120 crashes every day.
