Osceola County, FL (September 17, 2018) - One woman died and two other people were injured in a rollover crash on the Florida Turnpike. The crash happened on Sunday, September 16th in Osceola County.
Florida Highway Patrol responded to a call for assistance in reference to the crash. When authorities arrived, they discovered a single vehicle, an SUV, had been involved in the crash. Following investigation, they learned that 30 year old Laura Bueno was driving the SUV when she lost control and the vehicle overturned. A passenger in Bueno's vehicle, 69 year old Cecilia Morales Carballer, was ejected when the rollover took place. Carballer suffered fatal injuries in the collision. A 5 year old passenger was treated for minor injuries while Bueno herself also had minor injuries.
FHP determined that the crash was caused due to separation in a tire tread. There is no further information available at this time.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragic crash. Vehicle equipment issues and malfunctions cause many crashes to occur each year across Florida. In this case, an issue with tire tread caused Laura Bueno to lose control of her car.
This crash will require careful investigation. If it turns out that the tires were defectively manufactured then the company who manufactured the tires could face civil liability for the death of Cecilia Carballer as well as the injuries to Bueno and her 5 year old passenger. Mechanical and equipment defects can have sudden, tragic consequences for vehicle occupants.
