Pasco County, FL (February 4, 2019) - A 92-year-old Pasco County man is in critical condition after a crash on Sunday, February 3rd. Hugh Snow was walking along US 19 in the westbound lanes when he was hit by a vehicle around 3:55 pm.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say that Snow was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by the vehicle. The car was making a right turn and failed to properly yield to Snow, causing the collision. Snow was rushed by ambulance to Bayonet Point Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was listed in critical condition.
The driver has been identified as 51-year-old Stephen Hayes Stokes. Troopers plan to charge Stokes in connection with the crash. There is no additional information available at this time.
Our thoughts are with Hugh Snow and his family in the aftermath of this pedestrian accident. The large majority of pedestrian crashes involve injuries to the affected pedestrians. Nearly a quarter of all pedestrian collisions will involve serious injuries as we see in this case. Failing to yield to a pedestrian is a major cause of pedestrian accidents across Florida and is also a form of negligent driving behavior that leads to liability for the driver.
