Pasco County, FL (March 17, 2019) - A motorcyclist from New Port Richey died in a crash with a vehicle on Saturday, March 16th. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol have identified the victim as 59-year-old David Clair Brasington.
Authorities were dispatched to the intersection of Rancho Del Rio and Via Segovia around 12:49 p.m. in reference to the crash. Following an investigation, it was determined that Tajh Latrail Martin was driving a 2003 Toyota Celica northbound on Via Segovia. Martin stopped at a stop sign at the intersection before proceeding into the intersection and striking the rear of Brasington's motorcycle. Brasington was traveling eastbound on Rancho Del Rio at the time of the crash. He was not wearing a helmet and died at the crash scene.
Alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the crash. Troopers are still investigating and charges are pending at this time.
Fatal accidents are reported about every three hours in Florida. Sadly, motorcyclists are among those at the highest risk of being involved in serious and fatal crashes due to the lack of protection that a motorcycle offers in the event of a crash with another vehicle. We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family of David Brasington during this difficult time.
