Pasco County, FL (October 25, 2018) - An 18-year-old is facing charges after leaving the scene of a crash that killed a passenger.
Christopher Blanton Christian, Jr. was driving a 1998 Honda Civic in the northbound lanes of Spring Lake Highway on Saturday, October 20th. As Christian approached Hayman Road at a high rate of speed he failed to navigate a curve. Christian's vehicle veered into the southbound lanes before leaving the roadway and striking a tree.
Christian's passenger, 16-year-old Eli Harnage, was thrown from the vehicle following impact. Harnage was airlifted to Bayonet Point Hospital where he later died from his injuries. Christian was located at his home by Florida Highway Patrol troopers. He had bruises consistent with a seat belt and later admitted to driving during the crash that killed Harnage. Christian was initially charged with hit-and-run but more charges are expected.
Our thoughts are with the family of Eli Harnage during this difficult time. Losing a loved one to a traffic crash is a devastating event to the family members left behind. Certainly, it is never easy when a young person dies unexpectedly in a car accident.
