In Clearwater, a 3-year-old named Payton Church was attacked by a pit bull that was not on a leash at the time. The boy is still recovering from his serious injuries at Tampa General Hospital.
His mother says that he will deal with the scars the rest of his life. The incident happened when Church was with his grandmother. She and Church were sitting on a bench and eating lunch in front of a food bank when the boy got up to throw away trash. That’s when the pit bull came out of nowhere. The dog came up to him, licked him, and then snapped at his face.
The owner was nearby but did not have the dog on a leash. A witness was told to call 911 while the grandmother took the child to the hospital for stitches. However, the witness never called and the dog and owner disappeared. The grandmother filed a police report.
