Plant City, FL (November 18, 2018) - A pedestrian killed in a crash on Sammonds Road has been identified by police.
43 year old Armando Lopez was walking along the south shoulder of the road when he was struck by a vehicle on Friday, November 16th. Officers say that 26 year old Daniel Castro was driving a Ford Fusion vehicle that struck and killed Lopez. Castro was fleeing from police at the time of the crash and struck Castro as he attempted to make a sharp right turn. Castro also fled the scene of the collision after striking Lopez. Lopez, who died at the scene, was on his way to work at the time of the crash.
Castro was charged with several criminal offenses, including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a fatality crash, aggravated fleeing to elude, and assault on a law enforcement officer.
Our thoughts go out to the family of Armando Lopez. Certainly, this crash was a senseless tragedy that should have been avoided and responsibility clearly lies with Daniel Castro for the death of Armando Lopez.
