Hit-and-run collisions account for about a quarter of all traffic crashes reported in Florida. This amounts to about 100,000 hit-and-run accidents each year. In many of these crashes, the driver flees the scene after the victim has sustained serious injuries. Leaving the scene of an injury accident is a felony offense and carries serious criminal penalties including jail time.
When a pedestrian loses their life in a hit-and-run accident, the pedestrian's next-of-kin could be entitled to bring a wrongful death claim for the loss of their loved one.
