Polk County, FL (May 28, 2019) - One person is dead following a crash between a dump truck and a street sweeper on Tuesday, May 28th. The crash took place around 8:42 a.m., near Interstate 4 and Old Grade Road.
44-year-old Darwin Gordon Phillips was driving a 2006 GMC TK street sweeper traveling behind a dump truck driven by 50-year-old Jason Lee Davis. Davis stopped to make a left turn when he was struck from behind by the street sweeper. After impact, the street sweeper erupted into flames. Phillips died at the scene of the crash. Davis was taken to Heart of Florida Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers are still investigating the crash and there is no further information available at this time.

A woman is dead and a man is seriously injured after a serious crash on Monday in Miami-Dade. The crash happened in Brownsville, near Northwest 19th Avenue and 54th Street. Miami-Dade officers responded to the scene along with fire crews. There were two vehicles involved in the accident. At this time, there is no word on what led up to the crash. The female driver of one vehicle died at the scene while the male driver of the second vehicle was rushed to the trauma center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
