Putnam County, FL (January 28, 2019) - A 59-year-old man from Middleburg is dead after two semi-trucks collided in Putnam County on Monday, January 28th.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to State Road 100, near the Vulcan Materials Company, around 6:00 am. Investigators were able to determine that one truck was traveling eastbound on SR 100 when it collided with another truck that was attempting to exit the highway. The first truck then rotated over onto its side following impact. The driver of the first truck, identified as William Brathwaite, was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
The driver of the second truck, a 58-year-old man, was taken to UF Health Shands Hosptial for treatment of minor injuries. A report from the Florida Highway Patrol indicates that troopers are considering whether alcohol played a role in the crash. Charges are pending at this time.
There will be about 250,000 injury accidents that take place across Florida this year. Many of these accidents will involve semi-trucks. The devastation and destruction caused by a semi-truck accident are often extreme. When these large vehicles collide with a small vehicle, or with one another the force of the impact is usually great enough to result in serious injuries and even death. For this reason, truck drivers must often use extra care and caution to avoid a collision from occurring.
Many trucking companies fail to follow basic safety regulations which result in having dangerous trucks on the roadway. This can lead to an increase in accidents. Other times, a truck driver is simply negligent and causes an accident with tragic consequences. Regardless of the case, innocent victims should be compensated for their injuries.
