Putnam County, FL (August 29, 2018) - A head-on crash in Putnam County has led to the death of one person. The crash was initially reported on Tuesday morning. According to authorities, Justin Brooks, 24, was traveling in the westbound lanes of State Road 100. Suddenly, Brooks' vehicle veered over the center line and into the eastbound lanes of the roadway. While in the eastbound lanes, the vehicle struck a tree trimming truck head-on.
The truck driver attempted to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful. The force of the impact caused critical injuries to the truck driver and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver has been withheld at this time.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating this crash. At this time, alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor, but no charges have been filed. There is no additional information available.
Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with the family of the truck driver. There are over 250,000 injury accidents reported each year in Florida. A head-on collision is one of the most dangerous and deadly types of crashes that we encounter. Head-on collisions typically happen at high speeds and involve catastrophic damage to vehicles and severe injuries to those involved. Many times, factors such as distraction and alcohol play a role in head-on collisions where a driver has traveled left of center. We will have to await further investigation before a cause of this crash can be determined.
