Santa Rosa County, FL (August 26, 2018) - A school bus crash on Friday left two students hospitalized.
The crash happened just before 6:30 am on County Road 399 in Santa Rosa County. According to reports made by the Florida Highway Patrol, Brian Day, Jr. was operating a pickup truck on C.R. 399 just east of Zilla Street. Suddenly, Day crossed the center line and collided with the side of the school bus.
29 students were on board the bus at the time of the crash. Two were injured and transported to Gulf Breeze Hospital. Fortunately, their injuries are not considered serious.
Police have not said what caused Day to cross the center line. An investigation remains ongoing.
Child safety is the top priority for drivers in charge of transporting students to and from school each day. School bus drivers have a very important job and must always drive cautiously and safely, remaining aware of any potential hazards that could lead to an accident.
In this case, it looks as though the responsibility for the crash lies with Brian Day, Jr. A driver who crosses the center line leading to a crash is negligent in the eyes of the law. When a driver's negligence causes injuries, those hurt in the crash can file a personal injury case seeking to recover damages, including pain and suffering and medical bills incurred due to the accident.
