87-year-old Sarah Poss died at UF Health Shands two weeks after suffering injuries in a car crash on March 28. At the time, Poss was driving her 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. At the same time, 19-year-old Carleigh Hartzog was driving a Kia Optima. Poss was driving eastbound and stopped in the left turn lane at an intersection. The Kia was headed westbound.
Poss made a left turn into oncoming traffic and the two vehicles collided. The vehicles came to a rest on SR 222 and were removed from the road onto the shoulder. Hartzog only had minor injuries, but Poss received severe injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Sarah Poss was pronounced dead this past Thursday (April 12). She would have been cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic if she had survived.
