Sarasota, FL (May 20, 2019) - A 9-year-old boy is dead after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle to school on Monday, May 20th. The crash was reported around 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of Webber Street and Nodosa Drive.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Roman Miller and his sister were riding their bicycles to Brentwood Elementary School; Roman was riding behind his sister. As they attempted to cross, Roman was struck by a Chevy Silverado, which was driven by 25-year-old Charity Lamb. Roman's sister had already crossed the street when Lamb entered the intersection and failed to yield to Roman. She struck him and dragged him about 15 feet before coming to rest.
Investigators later confirmed that Roman and his sister had the right-of-way when the crash occurred. Roman was taken to Doctors Hospital in Sarasota, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Charges are pending against Lamb at this time.
