Seminole County, FL (December 28, 2018) - A 26-year-old moped driver is suffering from serious injuries after a hit-and-run crash that took place in Seminole County on Friday, December 28th.
Police say that Alyssa Harris was riding a moped westbound on Aloma Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle after traveling through a slick spot. Harris crashed and was thrown from the moped into the roadway. As she was lying in the road, she was run over by a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder. Harris was dragged by the vehicle until being dislodged. The driver then drove to a nearby gas station before pulling away and leaving the scene.
Harris was transported by EMS to Central Florida Regional Hospital with serious injuries, including broken ribs, a fractured hip and road rash. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash and is attempting to locate the Pathfinder driver.
Our thoughts are with Alyssa Harris as she recovers from this serious hit-and-run crash in Seminole County. Sadly, a substantial portion of motor vehicle accidents in Florida are hit-and-run crashes. Statistics show that about 25% of accidents are hit-and-run collisions. Drivers choose to leave the scene for a variety of reasons. Among other things, a hit-and-run driver could be impaired, may not have insurance or may be wanted by police for other issues unrelated to the crash.
