Seminole County, FL (February 9, 2020) - A 63-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a crash that took place in Seminole County on Saturday. The crash was reported on Wekiva Springs Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Robert Sparks was riding his bike westbound on Wekiva Springs when he was struck by a vehicle that was attempting to make a left turn. Sparks suffered critical injuries after being thrown from the motorcycle following the crash. He was later pronounced dead. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured and has not been identified at this time.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash. Charges are pending against the driver at this time.
In 2016, Florida experienced approximately 600 deaths related to motorcycle crashes. In the same year, there were more than 10,000 motorcycle collisions reported and more than 8,000 of those resulted in some type of injuries being sustained. Injuries due to Florida motorcycle accidents are often serious in nature. Motorcycle accidents, unfortunately, have a much higher likelihood of being fatal in nature when compared with crashes involving other types of vehicles.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Robert Sparks.
