Sequatchie River, FL (July 10, 2018) – A kayaking accident took place on the Sequatchie River that led to the death of one man. Witnesses were on the scene and claimed that the man had to be pulled to shore, where they performed CPR on him until emergency responders made it to the scene.
The accident took place on the Sequatchie River on Sunday. The call came in around 3:45 p.m. The man was identified as 38-year-old Daniel Atkinson, who was with his family as they were taking turns practicing their kayaking techniques on the river.
The children were swimming and the wife took a kayak out to practice her maneuvers and then traded with her husband. He started to paddle toward a low head dam and the water from the dam overturned the kayak. The current was so strong that it pulled him under.
Witnesses who were present at the time were able to pull him to shore, where CPR was performed on him. He was then taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
