South Pasadena, FL (April 26, 2019) - A motorcyclist from Largo suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash with a vehicle on Thursday, April 26th, on Gulfport Boulevard South.
According to reports, 49-year-old James S. Bekas was riding a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Pasadena Avenue South, approaching the intersection with Gulfport Boulevard. Bekas had a green light in his direction of travel. As he arrived at the intersection, a 2012 Volvo S80 driven by 70-year-old Sue A. Henderson, of Gulfport, was attempting to make an eastbound turn against a flashing yellow arrow.
Henderson failed to see Bekas and collided with his motorcycle as she attempted the turn. Bekas collided with the passenger side of Henderson's car. He was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police are still investigating but, at this time, it is believed alcohol played a role in the crash.
Motorcycle accidents can be serious and devastating. While motorcycle riders often ride for enjoyment and thrills, a crash can happen suddenly and can be life-altering. As of 2017, Florida led the nation in motorcycle accident deaths. The number of injured victims in these crashes is also very high.
We hope that James Bekas is able to make a full recovery from his injuries in this tragic motorcycle crash.
