St. Johns County, FL (February 2, 2019) - A crash involving a camper and an SUV took place in St. Johns County on Friday, February 1st.
The crash happened around 11:49 am near Mile Marker 292. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash. According to reports, a 2005 Ford E350 was traveling southbound on I-95. The Ford was pulling a trailer when a rear tire came off the vehicle. The vehicle then left the roadway causing the camper to overturn and the truck to go airborne. The truck landed on its roof with the camper blocking the southbound lanes of the highway.
At the same time, a 2001 Toyota Highlander was driving southbound in the center lane when it collided with the Ford. Rescue workers transported the driver of the Ford and the Highlander to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. No one involved in the accident has been identified and it is not clear if charges will be filed.
Each year, approximately 250,000 injury accidents are reported in Florida. Many crashes take place on highways such as this one. Highway crashes are common due to congestion, high speeds and the presence of large commercial vehicles such as semi trucks. Each highway crash must be closely analyzed by police to determine which driver was at fault. Any innocent drivers or passengers who are hurt due to the negligence of another may have a personal injury claim against the responsible driver.
