St. Petersburg, FL (September 12, 2018) - A three vehicle crash on Tuesday, September 11th injured a sheriff's deputy and resulted in the driver being charged with DUI. The crash happened around 12:50 am at the intersection of 38th Avenue N and 34th Avenue N in St. Petersburg.
According to reports, 32 year old Zachariah Johnson came to a red light at 34th Street N but failed to stop. He then collided with a vehicle driven by Deputy Christopher Ludtke. A third vehicle, driven by Shannon Clark was also involved in the accident. Clark and a passenger were offered medical treatment on scene but refused to be transported to the hospital. Ludtke was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Following investigation, Johnson was charged with DUI involving property damage and driving on a revoked license. Breath samples taken indicate that he was well over the legal limit at the time of the crash.
DUI accidents can have a serious and destructive impact on those involved. Due the nature of these crashes, they often occur at high speeds and involve the most dangerous types of crashes such as head-on collisions from wrong way drivers. Fortunately, in this DUI accident the injuries sustained do not appear to be catastrophic. Zachariah Johnson will be held legally responsible, however, for the injuries and damages resulting to those affected by the crash.
