St. Petersburg, FL (October 6, 2018) - Police were on the scene of a fatal crash reported in the southbound lanes of I-275 on Friday, October 5th.
Florida Highway Patrol reports that the crash involved a dump truck and at least one other vehicle. The accident occurred when the dump truck, traveling on I-275 south, left its lane of travel and hit another vehicle. The dump truck then proceeded into the median where it rolled over and ejected the driver. One person died in the collision. There is no word on the identification of the deceased individual nor is there any information on any other injuries sustained in the crash.
The crash left dirt from the dump truck strewn across the road. The southbound lanes and one northbound lane were blocked while police investigate the crash. There is no word on the cause of the collision.
A fatal crash happens in Florida every 8 hours. Fatal crashes require a close examination of the accident scenes, including physical evidence at the scene along with any eyewitness statements. Police will typically create a reconstruction of the crash that seeks to explain the events leading up to the accident itself. In this case, we do not have enough details to say why the dump truck left its lane of travel.
