St. Petersburg, FL (March 23, 2019) - A woman from Clearwater suffered serious injuries when she was hit by a wrong-way driver. The collision occurred on Friday, March 22nd, along Interstate 275.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol report that 37-year-old Jessica Murphy was traveling in the northbound lanes of I-275 near the Gandy Boulevard exit. Murphy veered into the southbound lanes and struck a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Priscilla Mouzon. Murphy's car burst into flames after the collision. She was able to escape with minor injuries. Mouzon, however, suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital.
Following an investigation, police charged Murphy with DUI, reckless driving, and driving in the wrong direction. The road remained closed for about an hour while an investigation was ongoing.
Our thoughts are with Priscilla Mouzon as she recovers from her injuries sustained in this St. Petersburg car accident. Impaired drivers continue to cause serious injuries and fatalities across our state. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is extremely reckless and places everyone on the roadway at risk of being involved in a major crash.
