Yesterday morning, a South Pasadena man lost his life in the accident after suffering severe injuries. The other driver ran a red light and hit the car that the man was driving in. 56-year-old Donald Young of South Pasadena was taken to the hospital but pronounced dead from serious injuries while there.
The crash took place around 4:15 a.m. in the morning at the intersection of 49th Street and Fifth Avenue. A deputy was driving along in the area when he said he saw a vehicle that 28-year-old John Owa was driving. When the deputy ran the car’s tag, he found that Owa was driving with a suspended license. The deputy tried to pull him over but he fled the scene. Owa picked up speed on the pursuit and was going almost 70 mph when he drove through the red traffic light.
Owa hit the side of Mr. Young’s Ford, which caused the serious collision that took his life. As a result, Owa was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He was then charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated fleeing the scene, and more.
