Starke, FL (November 21, 2018) - A crash between a car and a bicycle left a man with critical injuries on Tuesday, November 20th.
According to reports by the Florida Highway Patrol, 59-year-old Eddie Brown was leaving a gas station on his bicycle around 6:10 am. As Brown attempted to cross US 301 he was struck by a Plymouth Voyager traveling in the southbound lanes. Brown was ejected from his bicycle and came to rest in the left turn lane of the highway. The van driver, Martin Rosier, remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with police.
The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash. Charges are now pending against Rosier according to troopers.
Bicycle crashes are very common in Florida. Every month, there are about 540 reports of bicycle accidents. Many of these accidents will involve serious injury to the bicyclist.
When a bicycle accident occurs, it is important to determine the sequence of events leading to the crash. Authorities will carefully consider all of the circumstances, including whether the driver could have avoided the crash through the exercise of reasonable care and caution. In this crash, police appear to have determined that Martin Rosier's negligence directly led to the collision with Eddie Brown's bicycle.
