Sumter County, FL (May 15, 2019) - A 23-year-old man is dead after his motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer on Tuesday, May 14th. The crash happened around 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of County Roads 471 and 721.
The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene in reference to the collision. Police say that Jonathan Manfred Klein was riding a Yamaha motorcycle when he crashed into the tractor-trailer. The motorcycle then overturned and ejected Klein following the impact. He was pronounced dead at the crash scene. No one else was injured in the collision.
Troopers are still investigating and charges are pending at this time.
Approximately 14% of all traffic-related deaths involve motorcycles. This is an astounding number, considering that just 3% of all registered motor vehicles are motorcycles. Clearly, riding a motorcycle carries a great risk of death or serious bodily injury in the event of a crash.
Motorcycle riders should always exercise caution and ensure that they are complying with all rules of the road. However, accidents will inevitably occur, even if a motorcycle rider complies with all laws and safety precautions.
