Survivor of ISD Bus Crash Celebrates Birthday in Hospital

A week ago, a fatal ISD Bus crash occurred that took the life of 65-year-old charter bus driver, Harry Caligone. It left many students from Channelview ISD with injuries and staff injured as well. One Florida student, Jose Valadez, still remains in a hospital recovering from his injuries.
Personnel at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola said that they celebrated his birthday this week in the hospital. Valadez was lucky to have walked away from the crash and suffered serious injuries as a result.
At this time, they are still unsure of when he will be able to return home. Many others are still working toward recovery after the devastating accident.

Groveland, FL - One Killed in Three-Car Crash on State Road 50
A three-vehicle crash in Groveland led to the death of one person on Friday, March 1st. 33-year-old Irasema Gort Valdes was driving a dump truck eastbound on SR-50 when she collided with the rear-end of Buick driven by Derek Smart. Smart's Buick veered into the westbound lanes of the roadway and collided head-on with an SUV. The driver of the SUV, identified as a 62-year-old man from Groveland, was killed in the crash. His passenger, a 58-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries. Read more
