Tampa, FL (April 22, 2020) - A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash that took place in Tampa on Tuesday, April 21st. The motorcycle crash was reported on State Road 574 near Tanner Road.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, 29-year-old Derek Brazo was riding his bike westbound on SR 574 near the intersection with Tanner Road. As Brazo approached the intersection, a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Roylan Salas made a left turn into Brazo's path. Brazo crashed into the back of the vehicle and died at the scene. Salas then fled on foot before police could arrive. He was later located at his residence where he was arrested and charges were filed in connection with the crash.

Last year in Florida, about 3,000 people were killed in traffic crashes that took place across our state. About one-quarter of all Florida car accidents are hit-and-run collisions. Sadly, hit-and-run accidents are often serious in nature and can result in the death of innocent motorists. Many hit-and-run drivers will flee the scene of a crash knowing that their negligence has resulted in serious injury to another person.
Our condolences go out to the family of Derek Brazo.
