A Tampa police officer was involved in an accident that took place on Busch Boulevard this morning. The accident took place in the westbound lanes near an intersection.
MPO Steven barber was traveling west at the time in a marked police car when the driver of a Mitsubishi attempted to make a turn, which violated the right-of-way.
MPO Barber tried to stop but he was unable to do so in time and it led to the collision. Both drivers were out of their vehicles speaking when responding officers came to the scene. MPO Barber was taken to a hospital as a precaution and the other driver was also taken to a hospital.
The other driver was issued a citation.

A 56-year-old man from Orlando was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on Orange Blossom Trail. The crash took place just after midnight on Tuesday, September 24th. According to police reports, the man had just been released from the hospital for an unknown reason when he tried to cross the road from west to east. As he crossed, he was hit by a southbound vehicle. The man was then thrown into the northbound lanes where he was struck by a second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene and the pedestrian was pronounced dead from his injuries. There is no immediate description of the vehicles. Read more
