Tarpon Springs, FL (June 20, 2018) – It was a day for accidents in Tarpon Springs this morning, as one crash happened right after the next on the highway.
First, a deadly pedestrian crash happened on US 19 in Tarpon Springs early this morning. The accident was so severe that it closed the northbound lanes of US 19. The roadways were closed for nearly four hours on Wednesday morning. The accident happened around 1:40 a.m. At this time, the name of the pedestrian has not yet been released. Police are still investigating, but at this time they do not believe that alcohol was a factor.
After that accident took place, another Tarpon Springs accident took place in the morning in the southbound lanes. It closed two lanes for a short period of time. Police are not sure what caused the crash, but it involved multiple vehicles.
In Florida last year, nearly 10,000 pedestrians were injured in pedestrian accidents. Many of these accidents happen when drivers are not looking out for the safety of pedestrians who share the roadways.
