Trinity, FL (September 9, 2018) - A motorcyclist is dead following a Sunday afternoon crash in Trinity. Aaron Scott Barnhouse, 19, was riding a 2002 KTM motorcycle westbound on State Road 54 around noon. At the same time, 74 year old Milagros Beda Coulmas was driving a 2003 Toyota Matrix eastbound on SR 54.
Columas attempted to turn left at an intersection with Little Road. As she was turning, however, her vehicle collided with Barnhouse's motorcycle. According to Florida Highway Patrol, Barnhouse died at the scene from injuries suffered in the crash.
FHP says that Columas will be charged for her role in the collision.
In 2015, over 9,000 people were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents in Florida. This number is very high, considering that less than 1% of all registered vehicles are motorcycles. At Rubenstein Law, we know how serious a motorcycle accident can be.
It appears in this accident that Milagros Coulmas will be held legally responsible for turning left in front of Aaron Barnhouse. Failing to yield the right of way is a common negligent driving behavior that leads to accidents in our state. Such negligence will entitle Barnhouse's next of kin to bring a claim for wrongful death.
