In January, a 19-year-old man named Jeff Desange was racing a BMW on N 40th Street when suddenly, his Mustang hit the vehicle. When he hit the vehicle, driven by 28-year-old Jorey Christophe, he died in the fiery crash. His male passenger also suffered serious injuries, as he was partially ejected from the vehicle.
Last night, officers arrived at Desagne’s apartment to arrest him on felony charges, which included reckless driving with serious bodily injury, vehicular homicide, and leaving a crash scene. At the time, the accident was listed as a hit-and-run until officers caught up with Desagne.
Today, he was released from jail on a $25,000 bond.
At the time of the accident, witnesses said that the two vehicles were racing around the street, speeding and weaving in and out of traffic and putting lives at risk. Desagne even attempted to squeeze his car between 2 vehicles during the race. When the accident occurred, Desagne kept driving off even after the BMW hit a metal utility pole and burst into flames.
