Yesterday, an 81-year-old woman and her small dog were killed in an accident in Volusia County. Florida Highway Patrol said that the accident occurred when a pickup truck veered off Interstate 95 and hit a tree.
The accident happened when 77-year-old Jerry Hershman drove his pickup along Oak Hill. The truck went off the road and hit a tree on its right side. It killed a passenger, 81-year-old Carolyn Perry, and a small dog.
Troopers are still trying to figure out why the pickup went off the road. At the time, both Perry and Hershman were wearing seatbelts. By the time officers got to the scene, Perry was dead and Hershman had to be taken to Halifax Health Medical Center.
