Volusia County, FL (July 10, 2018) – An Apopka man was killed in a serious Volusia County accident that occurred on Interstate 95. The accident happened early this morning around 12:50 a.m.
A 19-year-old man was killed in the accident when his motorcycle was split in half, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He was identified as Corey Ross, who died near Port Orange.
Ross was traveling behind a 2015 Jeep and failed to slow down as he was approaching an SUV. The front of the 2017 Yamaha struck the left rear of the Jeep. Because of this, the motorcyclist was split into two pieces, which caused Ross to be ejected from the vehicle. He was then pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jeep left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was identified as a 32-year-old Palm Bay man who suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Halifax Medical Center. His passenger, a 25-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The crash is still being investigated, but it has been determined that alcohol did not play a role in the case.
