Volusia County, FL (February 19, 2019) - Police are investigating after a Good Samaritan was killed while changing a tire on the I-4 in Volusia County around 1:00 a.m. on Monday, February 18th.
Officers say that 41-year-old Edward Keene stopped his vehicle on the side of the roadway when he spotted another driver with a flat tire. Keene exited his vehicle and was in the process of changing the tire when 37-year-old Fabian Thomas drove his vehicle onto the shoulder of the roadway, striking Keene from behind. Keene died at the crash scene due to the extent of his injuries.
Thomas fled the scene after impact and was seen removing the license plate from his vehicle at a nearby gas station on Deltona Boulevard. The bumper from Thomas's vehicle was also located in a grassy area near the gas station. Thomas was arrested by troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
