Winter Haven, FL (August 28, 2018) - A hit-and-run crash in Winter Haven on Tuesday morning left one person with serious injuries.
Around 6:55 am, witnesses reported seeing a white SUV traveling south near First Street. The SUV then crossed over the center line into the northbound lanes. In response to this, another vehicle on the roadway made a defensive maneuver to avoid the SUV. During the process, the vehicle slammed into a person entering a parked vehicle.
The SUV fled the scene immediately after the crash. The victim was seriously hurt and is being treated at a local hospital. Police are asking for anyone who saw this accident to come forward and assist with the investigation. There is no further information available at this time.
Each year in Florida there are over 250,000 injury accidents reported. Sadly, many of these accidents will involve hit-and-run drivers. A driver is required by law to remain at the scene of a crash until law enforcement arrives. Failure to do so carries both civil and criminal punishment. In this case, police will continue to search for the SUV driver who initially caused the crash to occur.
