A two-car crash took place in Davie yesterday that led to serious injuries in both a 9-month-old and 74-year-old woman. The accident took place when an SUV was put into the path of a Civic.
Heriberto Garcia, the driver of the Civic, claims that he swerved to avoid the SUV and lost control of his car. This sent the Civic into northbound lanes, where it crashed into another vehicle.
The 9-month-old boy was not secured into a safety seat. He was thrown from the vehicle and was seriously hurt. The 74-year-old woman, who was identified as Irma Cursio, became trapped in the back seat and suffered serious injuries.
Garcia and his passengers suffered minor injuries. All five people inside the Civic were taken to a health center for treatment.
The black SUV involved in the accident was never located, and the driver fled the scene. Police are still on a lookout.
