According to the National Transportation Safety Board, a plane crash occurred outside Atmore that led to serious injuries in one party.
The Atmore plane crash took place about a mile from the Robinsonville Baptist Church, where it suddenly came crashing down very close to the Alabama/Florida state line. It took place on Darryl Dawe Lane.
The pilot was identified as Matthew Scott Newton of Flomaton, who was seriously injured due to the accident.
At this time, the plane was identified as an experimental Kolb Firestar 2, which was registered to the pilot a year before the accident. However, he was not the builder of the plane. The plane came to rest on a private residence.
Inspectors came to the scene, where they collected a GoPro camera and reviewed images showing that the plane was in a cruise flight 500 feet above the ground when the incident occurred. It suddenly became unstable for reasons that are still unknown. Even after the plane made impact with the ground, its engine was still running.
The NTSB is still investigating the incident at this time.
There are so few plane accidents every year, with a small number of people becoming involved in these rare accidents and suffering injuries.
