Belleview, FL (August 20, 2019) - The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the victim in a fatal crash that took place in Belleview on Sunday, August 18th. The crash occurred near the Market of Marion flea market on US-441.
Troopers say that 79-year-old Edward Gromada was killed in the collision. Reports indicate that Gromada was driving a 1998 Toyota Corolla. Traveling behind Gromada was a 2003 Chevy. The Toyota struck the Chevy from behind at least three times. Gromada was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries. The driver of the Chevy, 39-year-old William T. Ihle, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Troopers are still investigating the crash at this time but it does not appear as though alcohol was involved.
No further details have been released.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Edward Gromada. Fatal car accidents are reported in Florida approximately every three hours. A car accident can, unfortunately, become fatal at any time. Even rear-end crashes, such as this one, can turn deadly under the wrong circumstances.
