Boca Grande, FL (April 10, 2019) - A 90-year-old man is in critical condition following a pedestrian crash on westbound 7th Street. The crash took place just before 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9th.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Eliot Clarke was walking on 7th Street in the westbound lanes, near the intersection with Gasparilla Road. At the same time, 48-year-old Debbie Prinz was driving a 2011 Chevy Colorado southbound on Gasparilla. Clarke walked into the southbound lanes in the path of Prinz's vehicle, causing a collision. Clarke was knocked down onto the roadway.
Rescue workers rushed to the scene and transported him Englewood Community Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Prinz did not suffer any injuries. There is no further information available at this time.
Our thoughts are with Eliot Clarke and his family during this difficult time. Each year, there are about 10,000 pedestrian-related injuries reported in Florida. According to reports from these accidents, pedestrian crashes are very likely to lead to death or serious injuries for their victims. Numbers indicate that at about 75% of all pedestrian crashes result in a visit to the emergency room for injured victims.
Each pedestrian accident must be closely examined to determine whether the driver could have taken steps to avoid the crash and thus was negligent. Negligent driving behavior can alter the life of a pedestrian in a matter of seconds.
