Bonita Springs, FL (February 19, 2019) - A collision between a bicycle and a car left a bicyclist dead on Monday, February 18th, on Bonita Beach Road, near Imperial Shores Boulevard.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. According to troopers, a 2012 Honda CRV was traveling in an eastbound direction on Bonita Beach along with a 1992 Chevrolet CK 1500. At the same time, 65-year-old Robert Thomas Miniger was riding his bike eastbound behind both vehicles. As the Honda attempted to change lanes, it cut off the Chevrolet, striking the front of that vehicle. After colliding with the Chevy, the Honda swerved toward the curb and struck Miniger.
Miniger suffered critical injuries and died at the crash scene. No one else was hurt in the accident. There is no word on any charges at this time.
More than 100 bicyclists will die this year in collisions on Florida streets and highways. Nationally, Florida ranks among the top states for bicycle crashes resulting in death and serious injury. Bicyclists in our state remain vulnerable to being killed or seriously hurt any time they are on the road.
Many bicycle accidents involve negligence on behalf of another person. In such cases, the bicyclist will have a legal claim for personal injury, allowing them to recover against the other driver. Compensation includes amounts for pain and suffering, medical bills, and lost wages.
