Callahan, FL (December 8, 2018) - A 58-year-old woman is dead and a 21-year-old is seriously hurt following a head-on crash at Lem Turner Road. The crash happened in Callahan on Friday, December 7th.
Based on initial reports, 21-year-old Layton Mizell was traveling northbound on Lem Turner around 10:40 pm. For unknown reasons, Mizell's Toyota 4Runner crossed into the southbound lane. While in the southbound lanes, the 4Runner collided with a Toyota Rav4, driven by 58-year-old Patricia Trantham. Trantham suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mizell was taken to UF Health with serious injuries.
Troopers are investigating to determine whether alcohol played a role in the crash. Charges against Mizell are pending at this time.
We are deeply saddened to hear of this head-on crash which claimed the life of Patricia Trantham. Head-on collisions are a major cause of many fatal Florida car accidents.
