Cape Coral, FL - Austin Paul Manke Killed in Crash on Cape Coral Bridge

Cape Coral, FL (February 9, 2020) - A 21-year-old driver was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Cape Coral on Saturday, February 8th. The crash took place on the Cape Coral Bridge.
According to authorities, Austin Paul Manke was traveling westbound on a motor scooter the inside lane of the bridge. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle traveling behind Manke struck the rear of the scooter. The vehicle then fled the scene. Rescue workers arrived and pronounced Manke dead as a result of injuries suffered in the collision.
Police are still looking for the suspect vehicle, which is described as possibly black and likely missing its left side mirror. Anyone with information should contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800.
Florida experiences approximately 100,000 hit-and-run collisions every year. A hit-and-run crash can, and often will have very devastating effects on its victims. Drivers who choose to flee the scene of a crash will usually do so knowing that they have caused significant damage. In an effort to avoid responsibility for their actions, they will leave before law enforcement can arrive. Fortunately, most of these drivers are eventually apprehended.
