Good Samaritans sometimes show themselves in the midst of accidents. Sometimes, when first responders aren’t able to immediately rush to the scene, these people are the first ones to see an accident and try to make it right. This was the case in an accident that took place in Lakewood Park.
Joe Shaddock and others on the scene, including Robert Grzech and Jonathan Rivera, found a vehicle that had rolled over at an intersection and caught fire. The flames were spurting from the vehicle and the workers had to pull the two out of the vehicle in record time to get them to safety.
The accident happened when 69-year-old Charles Gables was driving with his passenger, 78-year-old Katherine Russ on Kings Highway. The vehicle suddenly left the roadway and traveled onto the shoulder, then colliding with a utility pole. The vehicle flipped over and started to catch on fire.
The two had injuries. Russ was slumped over and was unconscious, so they were initially concerned about removing her from the vehicle. They had to cut off the seatbelts to free the two from the smoke.
