Clearwater, FL (July 3, 2019) - A chain reaction crash involving four cars left two sheriff's deputies injured in Clearwater. The crash took place on Tuesday, July 2nd, on South Keene Road.
According to investigators, 66-year-old Darcey Phillips was driving a 2003 Chevrolet van southbound on South Keene when she collided with the rear of a 1999 Mercedes. Following the initial impact, the Mercedes was pushed forward into the rear of a 2000 Chevrolet pick-up. The Mercedes was turned sideways before being struck again by the Chevy van. The van continued on and collided with an unmarked Pinellas County Sheriff's vehicle, which was being driven by Detective Orlowski and occupied by Detective Szeliga.
Both detectives, as well as Phillips, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Subsequent tests revealed that Phillips was impaired at the time of the crash. She was arrested and charged with two counts of DUI with injury and two counts of DUI with property damage.
