Coconut Creek, FL (April 8, 2019) - A deputy with the Broward County Sheriff's Office suffered injuries in a crash with another car on Monday, April 8th. The crash happened at Lyons Road and West Atlantic Boulevard around 2:45 p.m.
According to the Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Gina Carter, the deputy was driving an unmarked car that had its lights and sirens on when it collided with a pickup truck. The truck failed to yield at an intersection, causing the crash. Both the deputy and the driver were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard were closed while police investigated. No further details are available at this time.
Approximately 400,000 crashes will take place in Florida this year. All drivers have a duty to yield the right of way to other vehicles. When this does not happen and a crash occurs, the driver's negligence can form the basis of a Florida personal injury claim. Personal injury claims also arise in the case of reckless driving, impaired driving, distracted driving, and speeding, among others.
